The Wine

Grown on calcareous clay soils around Westhofen, harvested entirely by hand, and after spontaneous fermentation, aged in large oak barrels. A juicy, yet elegant nose with plenty of yellow stone fruit and ripe apple. Balanced on the palate, with beautifully integrated acidity and a very slightly creamy texture, along with a touch of salty piquancy and a nice grip from the tannins. Then comes a touch of bitter orange, along with a good amount of power and presence on the palate. The wine isn't overly overpowered, but lively and dynamic, with the necessary structure and freshness. A successful, uncomplicated Burgundy treat from Riesling legend Wittmann!
