The Wine

The Pommard Rouge from Vaudoisey-Creusefond enters the glass in a transparent cherry red. The nose is still somewhat reductive shortly after opening, but overall the wine presents itself as extremely approachable. A cool spice predominates, evoking associations of Szechuan peppercorn, leather, and menthol. Gradually, the kaleidoscope of aromas shifts, revealing notes of dill, black tea, and meat. Beneath this, fruit reveals hints of sour cherry and blueberry, all rather dark—no bright cherry shines here; the fruit rests, leaving the stage to the spicy-herbal components, yet still ensures a juicy character that fills the palate with anticipation. Rightly so, as it turns out: this is fresh and elegant juice with finely honed tannins and a cool character. The spicy and dark fruity aromas are also evident on the palate, and the wine practically cries out for hearty, roasted cuisine. Decanting is possible, but not necessary; a great Pommard that's incredibly impressive even at this young age!
