The Wine

Grown on calcareous soils around Westhofen, matured primarily in large, neutral oak barrels with only slightly smaller containers. As always with Wittmann, all hand-picked and spontaneously fermented. On the nose, yellow stone fruit, plenty of pear and some peach, with underlying hints of ripe citrus, grapefruit, and fresh orange. The overall impression is very clear, bright, and fresh. Elegant on the palate, with a clear presence but not an ounce of excess weight, a very fine, creamy texture, and fresh, yet wonderfully integrated acidity. Here, the citrus fruit slightly dominates the stone fruit, with light bitter notes from the phenolics. This is beautifully refreshing and fresh, of a high standard for an estate wine, and a superbly delicious and elegant introduction to Wittmann's Burgundy world!

The Winery

Wittmann
Wittmann The Wittmann Winery is one of the most well-known names in Rheinhessen, representing the art of Riesling far beyond Germany's borders. The estate, which has been practicing biodynamics since 1990, produces magnificent wines from prime vineyards such as Morstein, Kirchspiel, and Brunnenhäusschen. Philipp Wittmann continues the family winemaking tradition with great success.
