The Wine
The almost 20-year-old Grillo vines from Case Alte grow at an altitude of approximately 500 meters on sandy-loamy soils. Harvested by hand, the wine aged for 6 months in steel tanks on the lees. A slightly fruity nose, a hint of peach, a delicate fragrance, and overall a rather cool character, unusual for Grillo. Everything is very bright and fresh, with increasing white peach, along with plenty of citrus, orange and grapefruit, orange blossom, and lemon blossom. There's also something maritime and salty about it. The palate is full of punch, with plenty of extract. A zesty spice coats the mouth, with beautifully present tannins. More peach and citrus aromas, plenty of freshness, lovely acidity, and good grip. A long, salty finish. This has a lot of intensity, yet is light-footed and easy to drink – fantastic! A Mediterranean white wine, the kind you'd want but rarely find. Perfect for getting a taste of the southern Italian lifestyle, and of course, combined with Sicilian cuisine, it's a dream!
