The Wine
From 60-80 year-old vines from the steep slopes of the Middle Mosel, spontaneously fermented in large, used barrels and aged on the fine lees. A truly charming, fragrant bouquet of ripe stone fruit, led by peach. The slate, often so present in Markus Molitor's wines, is only very faintly evident here, with the fruit clearly taking center stage. On the palate, it's wonderfully balanced, creamy, and fine. The acidity, quite unexpectedly for 2021, is completely integrated, with ripe stone fruit dominating, underscored by some citrus and the typical smokiness of the slate. Totally playful and refined, approachable and charming, but the opposite of banal, simply in total harmony. Very intense, with a long, zesty finish. The wine has power, but doesn't boast about it; finesse prevails. A wonderfully elegant, charming treat with a powerful flow!
