The Wine
The Boisrenard from Beaurenard is essentially the intensive version of the simple Chateauneuf. The grapes for this concentrated, profound wine come from select plots planted with extremely old vines. All 13 grape varieties of the appellation are represented here, with Grenache being the predominant component. More concentrated, darker, and sweeter in fruit extract than the simple Chateauneuf, the intensity is generally turned up to the max. Wonderful red and black fruit, a deeply ethereal nose with eucalyptus and rosemary; the bouquet is incredibly profound, fascinatingly complex, and, simply put, a delight. On the palate, the black-red fruit begins to build, building before the tannins roll in and coat the entire mouth. There is a mass of tannin, but it is very finely woven and ripe; on the finish, it retreats, making room for the wonderful aromatics of the Boisrenard, which linger for a long time. A highly aromatic, complex Chateauneuf with enormous depth, where the tannins need some air at the moment to integrate into the wine's enormous presence. This is a mouthful of wine in the best sense of the word: so much, yet so balanced, both delicate and fresh, elegant despite its power, and with a wonderfully clear expression of its origins: ancient vines grown in the best locations in the southern Rhône. A great wine, already a real rocket with air, but it can also mature to even greater heights for ages in the cellar.
