The Wine

The vines for this white Châteauneuf du Pape grow on a mixture of limestone, sand, and the typical large pebbles (French: galets). The harvest is done by hand, and spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by aging in foudres and small oak barrels. The wine enters the glass a lemon yellow with golden reflections. The nose is wonderfully lush: yellow fruit of mirabelle plums, herbs, almonds, and a hint of delicate roasted aromas. Softness and elegance are already hinted at on the nose, yet a refreshing element such as citrus peel also resonates, preventing the wine from becoming overly broad. The palate is also pleasantly herbal, with fine spice and a hint of salt. It is full-bodied and soft, yet with the necessary straightforwardness and freshness. The silky-elegant impression and the finish linger. In its youth, this is definitely a wine that needs some air in the decanter.
