The Wine
A cool, darkly spicy nose. A hint of anise, slate smoke, lemon peel. A hint of yellow fruit makes its way through, the stone predominates. A touch of creaminess emerges on the first sip, followed by incredible piquancy on the palate. Tannins coat the mouth, a salty acidity rushes through the mouth and lingers on the finish. This has real power, punch, and tension. Even after more than a day in the opened bottle, there's no calm here; all the controls are turned up to max. Funnily enough, it's still drinkable; the acidity is present but not dominating. Only the fruit is currently overpowered, but will gain increasing space over the next few years. So, for now, what remains is an extremely energetic, blazing power Riesling, thrilling in its intensity but also challenging. It's not quite at its balance at the moment, but tends towards rowdiness—you have to like that. With a little maturity, however, a harmonious, highly complex, and refined Riesling will shine from the glass. Those who like extreme wines will already be delighted with the Hubertuslay. Otherwise, just leave it in the cellar for a while, and it will become truly magnificent!
