The Wine
In the highly renowned Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard on the Mosel's steep slopes, old Riesling vines grow on stony red slate. This is a rare occurrence on the Mosel, but always imparts a delicately spicy character to the wines. A typical slate-spicy nose, pure Mosel & Molitor once again. Very fragrant, floral, white blossoms, light peach, and stony, slatey notes beneath—all very fine this year. With more aeration, a lot of lemon zest, very ethereal, very stimulating. A balanced, fresh mouth, with a smooth flow on the palate, a very slightly creamy texture, and a present but fully integrated acidity. Juicy, ripe citrus fruit, again a hint of white and yellow stone fruit, but the citrus clearly predominates on the palate. A salty, tangy finish with a long, citrus-laden aftertaste. The 2020 vintage is less red-fruity and darkly spicy than one would often expect from Würzgarten. However, this doesn't detract from the overall quality; everything here is perfectly harmonious, refined, and on point. The residual sweetness of the Goldkapsel is wonderfully balanced by the clear, precise acidity and the generally prevailing fresh character. An invigorating, piquant delicacy with juice and elegance!
