The Wine
The barrel from which Bernhard ultimately bottled this wine was actually on its way to becoming an Annaberg GG. However, at some point during fermentation, it stalled, ending up at 19 grams of residual sugar. The result is a wine with a rarely experienced drinkability. The tick of residual sugar chases the fine Moselle fruit from the Hasenpfad at high speed across the palate. A very fresh, silky mouthfeel, crisp, fresh yet integrated acidity, and the finest smoke from the slate go hand in hand with wonderfully ripe, juicy yellow stone fruit, led by apricot. Add a bit of candied citrus peel, orange, bitter orange, and bergamot, and you have this incredibly delicious wine. Once again, typical Werner: "Wine is for drinking!" Of course, this could also end up in the cellar—but, well chilled, it's actually much better as an excellent glass for almost any moment from now on!
