The Wine

A masterpiece of refinement and elegance. The 2021 Spätlese from Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a completely unfussy, self-contained wine full of finesse and playfulness. A very fine and delicate nose of citrus, ripe yellow fruit, and slate-like minerality. Totally fragrant, delicately floral, with ripe peach added, unobtrusive but very clear and present. Wonderfully fruity on the palate, an explosion of ripe peach, that's the top note of the fruit, that's what it's all about. Then comes candied citrus peel, more yellow stone fruit, a very fine acidity, and a delicate residual sweetness. A wonderful balance of sweetness and acidity, totally harmonious and balanced. Floating lightly, the wine flies across the palate. So fresh, delicious, and fine, and very typical of Wehlener Sonnenuhr with its fruity sweetness.
