The Wine

The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is dominated by blue Devonian slate. In unconsolidated plots, 100-year-old Riesling vines grow here, producing tiny yields of up to 10-20 hectoliters per hectare. An El Dorado for authentic, ancestral Mosel Riesling. A profound, stony-mineral nose, full of slate smoke and spice. The tart-mineral character is very much in the foreground, with only a faint hint of fruit in the background. A touch of yellow stone fruit, some citrus, and a hint of anise. Then, more slate. It's all very precise and intense, a very captivating, clear aroma full of depth. On the palate, a very precise, compact body with polished acidity that's present but very well integrated. It's incredibly lean and delicate, yet with a slightly creamy texture. The combination flows incredibly elegantly across the palate, with the residual sweetness only subtly underscoring this, not at all overt. Aromatically, you're immersed in a sea of fresh citrus fruit; combined with the subtle sweetness, it seems ripe, yet still on the unbridled fresh side. This citrus-laden aroma lingers on the finish with a salty piquancy and stony minerality. A very young, tart-spicy, and profound Kabinett full of radiant energy and stoniness at the beginning of its development. Already magnificent now, in a few years, with additional balance, it will be a masterpiece!
