The Wine
The second wine from Podere Le Boncie in Tuscany, consisting of Sangiovese, Mammolo, and Colorino. Fermented in stainless steel, aged in used oak for over a year, then bottled unfiltered and unfined. A very open, present bouquet. Plenty of red and black fruit, with juicy cherry at the top. Underneath, earthy and woody notes, undergrowth and truffle. Plus, ethereal spice with plenty of rosemary. On the palate, juicy, incredibly fresh, and vibrant. There's endless red fruit, along with an invigorating, very present, yet wonderfully integrated acidity. A wonderful interplay between this dense, intense fruit extract and the almost tangy acidity; it's super intense and yet very balanced. The acidity is clear and present, but never sharp or unpleasant; it simply provides wonderful structure. The tannins are fine and polished; the 2021 "5" is overall approachable and open. The fruitiness lingers with spice and tart notes on the finish, offering a lovely aromatic length. The "5" oozes its heritage from every pore: this is authentic, traditional Tuscany, as it is described in the textbook. Wonderful with hearty, spicy Italian cuisine. Evokes emotions; it could be used as promotional material for Tuscan tourism.
