Arietis Vandières Brut Nature NV (0.75l)

Alexis Leconte's Arietis is made from 100% Pinot Meunier from Vandières in the Valée de la Marne. Grown on limestone, clay marl, and sand, vinified in barrel vats, with no dosage. A very fine, cool, fresh, delicately spicy nose, with the finest citrus notes. This is even more focused than La Terre Mère, more delicate and precise. Very present perlage on the palate, and so much freshness! Everything flies and floats; the Meunier spiciness isn't at all expansive or overpowering, but totally defined and focused. It's so precise, totally on point, incredible. The acidity is well integrated, not at all prominent, but perfectly blended. The spiciness of the Meunier is somewhat subdued here in favor of pure elegance, resulting in a wonderfully balanced, light-footed, yet highly characterful and intense Champagne.
