The Wine
CMM owns another monopoly site in Auxey-Duresses: the Clos du Moulin Aux Moines, planted in the upper section with 70-year-old Pinot vines. The Vieilles Vignes exude an intensely spicy, black fruit aroma. Ripe black cherries and blackberries set the tone, along with a touch of dark chocolate, spicy notes of clove and pepper, and then more red and black fruit. The palate continues in a juicy, silky, and elegant manner. Intense red fruit and a fine, salty acidity permeate the mouth, piquant and invigorating, into a highly aromatic, long finish. Despite its thoroughly ripe, dark, and spicy aromas, the wine remains fresh and invigorating on the palate. The tannins are present, but now wonderfully integrated; The wine is bone dry, lacking a single ounce of fat, it plays a very expressive melody, building on spice, fruit, and a delicate structure. A wonderful Pinot. The 2017 has now matured a little and, with some aeration, will unfold a wonderfully aromatic, piquant, and delicious character.
