The Wine
The terraced Cru Scarrone vineyard lies directly below the winery in Castiglione Falletto. Some vines are over 100 years old, with naturally tiny, concentrated yields. The wine was fully destemmed and fermented for two weeks with skin circulation, then aged for 18 months in oak, primarily in barriques (25% new). An incredibly opulent bouquet with dense, expansive fruit. Red and black cherries dominate, with hints of blueberry and blackberry, framed by a delicate, herbal spice. A truly captivating, inviting, and concentrated nose, wonderful! This red and black fruit basket continues seamlessly on the palate. This is a mouthful of berries and cherries, fully ripe and juicy, underpinned by present yet totally melting tannins. The old vines demonstrate astonishing maturity combined with freshness and clarity. The wine is already completely open and accessible, yet at the same time, it's such a structural monster that it has a great future. So much aromatic and textural density, it's wild! For us, this is on a par with the house's great Nebbiolo, and at a fraction of the price. A tremendous wine and an absolute recommendation!
