The Wine
Alongside Cannubi, this is Chiara Boschis's second single-vineyard Barolo. Nebbiolo vines grow on limestone marl and sandstone with iron-rich inclusions at the Mosconi vineyard in Monforte d'Alba. Aged for two years in small French oak barrels, it displays dense, profound black cherry and raspberry, overlaid with an intense almond aroma. Spices, dark chocolate, a hint of milk chocolate, along with mint and a hint of eucalyptus. A very expressive, ethereal range of aromas. A juicy, red and black fruit attack on the palate, the wine flows silkily and velvetily into the finish, with a fresh, cool finish until the fine tannins finally emerge and coat the mouth. The wine lingers long, radiating with dark spice and black fruit character. Elegant, highly aromatic, yet balanced and tranquil. As always with Chiara Boschi, the Mosconi is completely at peace, exuding calm and clarity, and comes into the glass with an unfussy, classic style. A very fine wine, with great ageing potential, and plenty of aeration, it's already ready to enjoy.
