Chiara Boschis - E.Pira & Figli

Chiara Boschis took over the traditional Pira & Figli winery at a young age and has since worked her way up to become a respected figure in the Piedmont wine world. Thanks to her departure from the overly traditional, heavy Barolo style, her wines radiate freshness and fruit while simultaneously delivering on complexity and depth.

About Chiara Boschis - E.Pira & Figli

Chiara Boschi's Barolo Cannubi vineyard

The Pira family began winemaking around the turn of the 20th century. Since no heir was willing to take over the winery in the early 1980s, Ida and Franco Boschis took over. Since the late 1980s, their daughter Chiara has been in charge of the winery (assisted by her brother Giorgio since 2010), and over time, she has decisively shaped the style of the wines through various modernizations and changes. In Piedmont's eternal battle between traditionalists and modernists, it's often overlooked that there's room for successful viticulture between these two poles. Chiara Boschis, who forges her own path with a combination of traditional style and some deliberate breaks with it, probably fits this bill.

This includes, in particular, the combination of small, partly new, and large oak barrels, even in the great Nebbiolo. The maceration takes place in the traditional way, although in some cases significantly shorter. It is also worth noting that under Chiara Boschis, the transition to organic and now biodynamic viticulture was completed. Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo are cultivated on 11 hectares in the municipalities of Barolo, Monforte, and Serralunga. At the pinnacle of the wine pyramid, Pira & Figli boasts three Barolos: a single-vineyard blend from all the growing areas (Via Nuova), and two single-vineyard wines, Mosconi and Cannubi. All of the estate's wines are consistently characterized by intense fruit, clarity, and freshness. They radiate from the glass and are bursting with individuality, depth, and complexity.
