The Wine

Vietti's Barolo Castiglione is made from all the wines from Barolo vineyards that aren't individually bottled as such at the winery. Essentially, a Barolo cuvée from the best vineyards, but for a fraction of the price of the individual vineyards. The 2019 vintage has a fragrant, almost floral nose, ethereal with plenty of spice, along with dense, sweet black cherry, paired with plenty of orange peel, but also forest floor and fresh earth. In the mouth, there's plenty of red fruit, sour cherry, and red currant. The finest, very present tannins coat the mouth. It's bone dry and powerful, with a striking acidity that lingers right through to the endless finish. So much firm structure, yet so lean and fine, yet still super dense and robust thanks to all the tannins. Barolo is in its infancy; it needs to grow and mature, then something truly great will come from here.
