The Wine
A good 20-year-old vines from the Westhofen stone pit. The site borders the Brunnenhäuschen (well house) and shares its typical characteristics: the rocky soils of loess and limestone generally produce dense, powerful wines with plenty of depth and minerality. Florian vinifies the wine first in small, then in large, used oak barrels. Accordingly, we're a far cry from the carpenter's workshop in terms of aroma, but the wood brings wonderful structure to the wine. A fascinatingly spicy, smoky, stony nose, with a hint of flint and limestone—it smells like champagne! A tightly woven structure on the palate, fine tannins, yellow fruit juiciness, and a salty piquancy. This continues into the finish, lingering for a long time. A truly wonderful, drinkable Westhofen Chardonnay with structure, spice, and punch. A lot of fun!
