About Seehof Winery

Seehof Winery, Fauth Family

Despite regular praise from wine authorities like Jancis Robinson and Stuart Pigott, Florian Fauth maintains a certain underdog status. This is despite his Rheinhessen wines (and especially his Rieslings) easily being among the best in Germany and the world. For those lucky enough to be in the know, this means enormously great wines at extremely fair prices. Florian also makes uncomplicated, drinkable everyday wines, like his Pinot Noir Rosé , which has become our standard rosé for summer.

Florian doesn't look back on the career path that is now typical for a young winemaker. Before taking over his father's family winery, he wasn't drawn abroad to learn from the greats at renowned companies. He simply stayed in Westhofen and consistently dedicated himself to the local terroir and the continuous improvement of his wines. We have been following him for years. His wines are now receiving international recognition and are becoming increasingly popular. Florian has always remained an extremely pleasant person and family man, with both feet firmly planted in the vineyard and who cares about one thing only: making excellent wine.

”Vineyard location

His vineyards around Westhofen have also achieved world renown. The Westhofener Morstein has heavy, calcareous clay soils with subterranean water veins. This ensures the south-facing site receives a consistent supply of water and nutrients. The Riesling from old vines in this vineyard is Florian's spectacular battleship, with stony minerality and extreme longevity. The smaller version, the Westhofener Riesling M also comes into the glass with an enormous focus and minerality - in our opinion unbeatable in this price segment.

In contrast, the vines in the Steingrube grow on calcareous clay soils with a loess content. This is where outstanding Burgundy wines grow, such as the Pinot Noir Westhofener Steingrube , which has a distinctly French feel to it. Finally, Seehof also owns the Westhofen parish, a site protected from cold winds and blessed with perfect sunshine. Its soil is composed of weathered limestone clay and limestone marl. The wines from this site are generally particularly elegant and have a pronounced flavor.
