The Wine
The holy grail from Seehof. The Old Vines grow on some of the best Morstein plots with particularly stony subsoil. Southern exposure, increasingly less of a necessary quality characteristic for Riesling these days, is the necessary complement here, however, to wring greatness from the Riesling.
In 2023, the Morstein is more refined, reserved, and cooler than the Steingrube. It's no less haunting, but simply played on a different, quieter keyboard.
Stony, chalky and chalky in the glass, with fresh yellow and green citrus, then with more air a hint of exoticism, plus bitter notes with a hint of tobacco and a dark spicy touch.
On the palate, it's full of bite, tannins coat the mouth, and ripe acidity permeates the mouth, with endless salty lemon, a salty, stony force. But it doesn't leave a desert behind; rather, it's very balanced overall, captivating with its presence and intensity, and yet at its best.
It already shows a tremendous amount of potential, impressively, with depth and enormous complexity. Therefore, it's a recommended drink immediately, and naturally, it has great aging potential.
