The Wine
Florian's Chardonnay Reserve comes from the Steingrube vineyard on the Westhofen slope. It borders the more well-known Brunnenhäuschen vineyard and shares its typical characteristics: the rocky soils of loess and limestone produce mostly dense, powerful wines with a great deal of depth and minerality.
The Chardonnay -R- matures first in small, then in large, used oak barrels. Fortunately, we're far removed from the carpenter's workshop in terms of aroma, but the wood brings wonderful structure to the wine.
On the nose, nutty notes, salted almonds, a hint of sweet apple, some butter brioche, some yellow stone fruit.
On the palate, a wonderfully creamy and dense, yet super-finely woven tannin structure, along with yellow fruit juiciness and a long-lasting, mineral-salty piquancy.
This is a wonderfully structured Chardonnay full of expression and depth, with a gripping presence on the palate and a balanced, yet dynamic and powerful character. Combined with the price, it's a real bargain—highly recommended!
