The Wine
Vietti's Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo is a perfect introduction to the winery and the Nebbiolo grape variety. The vines for this outstanding Langhe Nebbiolo are on average 35 years old and grow almost exclusively in Barolo and Barbaresco vineyards. The hand-harvested grapes are vinified and matured separately by plot. Only after two years of aging in large wooden barrels are they finally blended. The wine shines ruby red in the glass. The nose is fresh and fruity, with ripe cherry and raspberry fruit blending together. Underneath, there is a pleasantly cooling note of menthol and earthy tones. The whole thing still seems very young and crisp, but already hints at its enormous aging potential. The palate is equally brimming with vitality. The wine has edges – noticeable but fine; the fine-grained tannins offer just enough resistance to the wine's juicy character so it doesn't disappear too quickly in the throat. The aftertaste, however, lingers for a while, also characterized by ripe red fruit and elegant spice. Nebbiolo in its purest form. It'll be truly enjoyable in a few years, of course, but the young version is also worth trying.
