The Wine
An introduction to the world of Jean Gimonnet on the Côte des Blancs with 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir & Meunier. The wine rested on the fine lees for 48 months, then a good 5 grams of dosage and disgorged in February 2023. Intense nose with apple, brioche, and pastry, slightly oxidative, with spice, all very powerful and direct. Blind, you'd guess less Chardonnay than Pinot Meunier and also Noir. Then a mouthful of foam, lots of very fine perlage. Beautifully balanced acidity, powerful aromatics, as in the nose, slightly oxidative, some fruit, underpinned by butter and pastry, delicately spicy and with a tart aftertaste. The finish then reveals dusty, chalky notes, with the soil fully evident. The Réserve has a full, broad aromatic profile, but is very dynamic and dry on the palate; the dosage isn't noticeable at all; it's truly crisp. It doesn't fill you up, but rather energizes and refreshes you. A lot of wine for your money, it's enjoyable and doesn't burden your wallet or palate like a Milchschnitte.
