The Wine
We simply call the Westhofen Riesling -M- from Seehof "The Little Morstein." Because that's what it is: alongside Florian's top wine, the Morstein Alte Reben, there's the -M- made from—who would have thought it?—young vines, or rather, from the material that didn't quite make it into the Alte Reben cuvée. But it's 100% Morstein!
Traditionally, this Riesling rattles mightily in the glass, especially at this young age (it has tremendous aging potential). To our astonishment (and, of course, our delight), the 2021 vintage, in its youth, proves to be surprisingly approachable and charming for its age. The finest nose of peach and citrus, a delicate spice, everything very bright and fresh, yet also dense and somehow creamy. On the palate, it's super intense and full of excitement, everything radiates and dances, as we know and love from Florian's wines. Lots of grapefruit, a subtle saltiness, and with aeration, a smoky, dark spice. This is already a real joy, ideally with some time in the carafe, and will continue to do so for the next 10 years (at least). Great Riesling for little money!
