The Wine
With Vietti's Roero Arneis DOCG, a wine comes into the glass that could hardly be more varietal, vinified by the Godfather of Roero Arneis himself. The vines are on average around 30 years old and planted on limestone marl with a high proportion of shell limestone. Harvested by hand, and aging takes place 100% in stainless steel tanks. In the glass, a bright, radiant lemon yellow. Initially herbal and spicy on the nose, reminiscent of fennel seeds and Mediterranean herbs, with subtle yeast notes that create a sur-lie character. Now more and more fruit: pear, white currant, lemon peel. The nose is opulent, constantly interspersed with a fresh, citrusy vein, keeping it in check, so to speak. The same is true on the palate: quite full-bodied and powerful, yet taut and easy to drink. The wine rests on the fine lees for almost half a year, which gives it its smoothness and elegant richness. The finish is long and intense, carried by herbs, subtle spice, and that citrus freshness that always entices you to take another sip. This wine also pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes, such as cold antipasti, minestrone, veal, or roasted fish.
