The Wine

Ciringa is the Slovenian side of the top southern Styrian vineyard Zieregg. A few years ago, the Tement winery began releasing comparatively affordable Sauvignon Blancs here, which easily rival their counterparts on the Austrian side of the border. Fosilni Breg (in German: Fossil Mountain) refers to the coral limestone soil, interspersed with fossilized corals and marine animals, which forms the basis for these barren and stony Sauvignon Blancs.

The Sauvignon Fosilni Breg arrives in the glass in a bright straw yellow. The nose is extremely expressive, initially dominated by saplings (or fireworks), then gradually enriched by ripe citrus fruits, apricot, and elderflower. On the palate, the ripe acidity pops in typical Sauvignon style, buffered by a fine, sweet texture that comes from aging on the lees. The wine is extremely energetic and somewhat cheeky, yet still elegant and refined. Definitely not a banal passion fruit Sauvignon, but something for true fans and adventurers. We never get bored, and its unique style is a unique experience!
