The Wine

Since taking over his parents' winery at the beginning of the millennium, David Reynaud has been working entirely biodynamically. The vines for the Viognier Les Monestiers grow on limestone and granite, and the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel. The bouquet is correspondingly clear and fragrant. Plenty of ripe yellow stone fruit and fresh citrus fruit, along with a floral fragrance; very captivating, fresh, and juicy. This is underpinned by profound mineral, chalky notes and a savory, herbal spice. Juicy on the palate, a burst of yellow fruit, with exotic fruit, mango, and pineapple joining the stone fruit; clear, fresh, and full of juice. The fruit is embedded in a sea of stones; if the wine is exposed to air, this mineral, stony character increasingly comes to the fore. Totally drinkable and juicy, with a salty, slightly piquant finish with depth and length. A wonderful Viognier!
