The Wine

The Welschriesling from Velich enters the glass in a delicate green-yellow hue and captivates with a multifaceted bouquet. Initially, it is citrusy green with hints of pomelo and freshly mown grass, then increasingly tropical fruit: banana, melon, and passion fruit mingle with a delicate spice of pepper and freshly picked herbs. On the palate, it is juicy and soft, characterized by ripe, yellow stone fruit and sweet pears. A mineral-smoky note provides depth. The creamy body is beautifully framed by medium acidity, ensuring the wine always retains a refreshing character. Heinz Velich lets his Welschriesling mature for so long that he harvests the grapes at exactly the perfect time to enhance the delicate aroma while preserving the acidity. This is followed by spontaneous fermentation with extensive maceration before the wine is fully fermented. The wine is aged on the lees in stainless steel to further enhance its quality and give it a smooth, pleasant body.

The Winery

Weingut Velich
Weingut Velich Heinz and Robert Velich are known for their complex and balanced white wines from Lake Neusiedl. Numerous small lakes, called "Lacken", create a special microclimate here, which is crucial to the wines' characteristics. The majority of the wines are also fermented and/or aged in oak, which imparts a pleasant spiciness and opulence.
