Clemens Busch
Clemens Busch is a true pioneer of sustainable viticulture and biodynamics on the terraced Mosel. The family business has been certified organic in its vineyards since 1986 and avoids any additives or synthetic aids in the cellar. The color of the bottle caps (gray, blue, or red) reveals the slate from which the Riesling originates. Despite their differences, the wines are united by their expressiveness, focus on the terroir, and a wonderfully juicy drinkability.Mehr erfahren
About Clemens Busch
In the quiet and tranquil village of Pünderich on the Moselle, Clemens Busch's estate is located directly on the banks of the Moselle. On the opposite bank, the Pündericher Marienburg vineyard sits majestically, from which the winery produces the majority of its expressive Rieslings. Clemens and Rita have long cultivated the vineyards using organic methods and meticulous manual labor. They still manage the Marienburg, which was divided into individual vineyards until the 1970s, according to its original site classification, producing wines separately from the Fahrlay, Falkenlay, Raffes, and Rothenpfad parcels. The capsules of the wine bottles are always based on the color of the respective slate soil and are gray, blue, or red, respectively.

The work in the cellar follows the same artisanal and sustainable approach to cultivation. The hand-picked grapes are carefully processed, often remaining on the skins for a certain period of time and fermented exclusively with natural yeasts, i.e., spontaneously. The vinification process here relies primarily on naturalness and patience: the musts, either unclarified or clarified only with sediment, ferment in old Mosel barrels, sometimes for over ten months, separated by vineyard. During this time, the wines rest on the fine lees, thus acquiring smoothness, complexity, and stability.
It's a wonderful pleasure to taste different wines based on their vineyard sites and slate types. Red slate is known to favor slightly fuller Rieslings with a more tropical aroma. The Marienburg Rothenpfad GG, from red slate, is wonderfully ripe and yellow-fruity, with a dark spice. In contrast, the Marienburg "Fahrlay Terrassen" GG , from blue slate, is extremely austere, piquant, and full of bright citrus fruit. Clemens Busch masters both styles perfectly, delivering some of the most exciting Rieslings from the Terrassenmosel region year after year.
