About Montenidoli

View from the Tuscan vineyard of the Montenidoli winery

Welcome to the Montenidoli winery in the beautiful heart of Tuscany . The Montenidoli vineyards are located near the picturesque and historic town of San Gimignano and are surrounded by woodland. The winery originated from an old Templar monastery, discovered in 1965 by Sergio Muratori, who, after recultivating the vineyards, finally harvested the first wine in 1971. Today, Montenidoli is managed by Elisabetta Faguioli, who continues to run the winery in her husband's spirit and, even in her advanced age, remains brimming with energy and zest for life.

The vineyards extend over 24 hectares and are cultivated according to organic farming principles. The soils consist of marine sediments, limestone, and Triassic rock, which is unusual for this region. Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Trebbiano Gentile, Malvasia, Canaiolo, Colorino, and Sangiovese are planted. Elisabetta Faguioli is considered a pioneer in Tuscany, and many renowned winemakers, such as Jan Erbach of Pian Dell' Orino, look to her as a role model.

The winery produces around 120,000 bottles of wine annually, including exceptional red wines grown on Triassic soils that boast impressive depth. Our absolute favorite, the Sono Montenidoli Toscana Rosso IGT , is a prime example of great Sangiovese. Enticing cherry fruit paired with dried herbs. On the palate, it's powerful, complex, and long-lasting. Equally impressive is its little brother, the Toscana Rosso IGT , which delivers an amazing firework display for its moderate price. Intense black fruit, delicious spice, and endless juiciness thanks to the beautifully integrated acidity—simply fantastic! These wines generally need a few years of aging to reveal their full potential. Especially when paired with typical Tuscan dishes like wild boar or rabbit, they're practically guaranteed to be a delight.

The Montenidoli winery is also an important member of the Italian Slow Food movement, which promotes the preservation and revival of traditional food cultures. The winery also produces a sensational olive oil that should be tasted with caution: it's extremely pungent on the palate! Membership in the Slow Food movement demonstrates the winery's commitment to preserving Tuscan culinary culture and using regional ingredients in its cuisine.
