About AJ Adam Winery

In the tranquil Neumagen-Dhron, Germany's oldest wine-growing town, siblings Andreas Adam and Barbara Gudelj are responsible for wines that stand for precision, finesse, and depth. They took over the former mixed farm from their parents, along with a few vineyards in the then-unknown Dhroner Hofberg site. After completing their studies and gaining groundbreaking experience abroad at renowned wineries, they finally returned home with renewed energy and breathed new life into the vineyards.
Part of the Mosel wine-growing region , we find ourselves here on the Dhron, a small tributary of the Mosel, which babbles along more like a gentle stream. From its source, the Dhron flows down the Hunsrück into the Mosel, bringing a constant fresh breeze and cool temperatures to the side valley. The Dhroner Hofberg, mentioned at the beginning, benefits particularly from this; today, thanks in part to the Adams family, it has blossomed anew. An extremely steep slope, where, thanks to the coolness, the flowers always bloom a little later and are also harvested later than in other vineyards in the area. A welcome change in the face of climate change. Grapes from these sites already find their way into the base wine, the dry Riesling .

The Häs'chen vineyard also has a similarly cool feel. At just 2,677 square meters, it's more like a bunny than a full-grown rabbit. Facing east and protected from extreme heat and sunlight, ungrafted vines from the 1930s grow here, producing the winery's most delicate and refined wines. Andreas and Barbara conjure up the wonderfully delicate Häs'chen Riesling Kabinett and the minerally and extremely long-lasting Häs'chen Riesling GG from this expansive vineyard.
The shooting star of the vineyards, however, is the Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, a Riesling amphitheater where young vines sit alongside ancient ones. The Adam family owns a plot here with ungrafted vines that are up to 110 years old. In comparison, it's considerably warmer here, so rosemary, lavender, and wallflower grow alongside the vines, producing more powerful wines. The Adam family also uses this vineyard to produce a Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett, which is drinkable even when young, and a Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling GG, which is extremely rich in extra-virgin grapes and long-lasting.

At the Adam winery, vinification is all about the terroir. The wines are conceived as ambassadors of their origins, meant to reach the glass in the purest possible way. This means meticulous hand-picking in the vineyard, strict yield reduction, and spontaneous fermentation and aging in 1,000-liter barrels. Filtration and fining are avoided to allow the wine to develop as freely as possible. This is truly sophisticated wine drinking, and anyone who appreciates the austere Laser Rieslings of the Mosel will love Adam wines.
