Tement Winery
Over the years, Tement has earned a reputation as the premier source for Austrian Sauvignon Blanc. Zieregg, in particular, is now considered one of the world's most outstanding white wines, and for good reason. The barren soils, bare rocks, and impressive slopes create extreme conditions in which only exceptional wines can thrive.Mehr erfahren
About Tement Winery

The Tement winery in Southern Styria is 95% dedicated to white wine production, thanks to the excellent conditions here in southern Austria, directly on the Slovenian border. The Styrian climate, with its many microclimates, contributes to a unique terroir. Rainfall varies from west to east, the number of sunny days increases, and the temperature differences between day and night favor the wines' diversity of bouquet and flavor, which is rarely found elsewhere in the wine world.
Tement pursues two unique styles: the "Styrian Classic" wines, which have always made the region famous and reflect Styria's authentic identity. The other, the fascinating single-vineyard wines, which are vinified with great dedication and sensitivity, varietal and single-vineyard. These single-vineyard wines are aged in large wooden barrels; some, such as the elegant Sauvignon Zieregg, also mature in small oak barrels. The harvest is carefully and selectively carried out to harvest only the best grapes and avoid botrytis.
Tement is famous above all for Styria's star grape variety, Sauvignon Blanc. The Grassnitzberg and Zieregg vineyards, in particular, offer ideal conditions for this fascinating grape variety. The Sauvignon Blanc Ried Grassnitzberg impresses with its grassy, fruity, and profound aromas, while the Sauvignon Blanc Zieregg Große STK Lage simply produces world-class wines that possess impressive aging potential while offering endless drinking pleasure. A great introduction to the topic is the Sauvignon Blanc Kalk und Kreide , which, despite its coolness and minerality, offers great accessibility.

But "Morillon" is also a Styrian classic and here simply the name for the Chardonnay grape variety. Unlike its counterparts in Burgundy or the New World, the Morillon here is not aged in new oak and is much more austere and exceptionally cool. The Morillon Muschelkalk wine lives up to its name and is bursting with stony minerality and herbal notes. The Morillon Ried Sulz Erste Lage takes this style to the extreme and also demonstrates the ageing potential of these Chardonnays.
Manfred Tement has expanded the business enormously over the past few decades, now encompassing 80 hectares on the Austrian side and 20 hectares on the Slovenian side, where the Tement family operates Domaine Ciringa . The vineyard here is called Zieregg, "Fosilni Breg," or "Fossil Mountain" in English. This vineyard also produces wines with a barren, stony character, which mature endlessly on the fine lees and ultimately reveal earthy, smoky notes and remarkable minerality in the glass.
